Hi, I’m Mary Jane — a passionate dance teacher on a mission to keep creativity, confidence and movement alive for children across Hampshire, West Sussex, and Portsmouth.

After spending years working within different companies, I’ve seen how dance is often undervalued, under-funded, and treated as “extra.” But for so many children, dance is essential — it’s freedom, expression, joy, confidence, energy release and a safe space to be themselves.

Many families can’t access dance outside of school because of the cost of living, travel barriers, or simply not having affordable options nearby. That’s why I’m launching MJ Movement: an independent dance provision dedicated to quality, inclusivity, and community.

With your help, I want to:

✨ Save and run high-quality after-school dance clubs

✨ Bring affordable dance sessions into community centres across Portsmouth

✨ Offer performance opportunities, showcases and creative events

✨ Keep dance accessible for families facing financial challenges

✨ Provide proper training for my incredible assistants so they can continue their work

✨ Create a safe, joyful and inclusive dance environment for every child

To make this possible, I’m raising money to cover the essential start-up costs, including:

• Public liability insurance

• Enhanced DBS checks

• Training and support for my assistants

• A registration/booking system to make things simple for families

• Quality equipment and props for the children

• Initial set-up costs to keep everything safe, professional and sustainable

If dance has ever touched your life, your family’s life, or you believe every child deserves a space to create, move and shine, then your support — no matter the size — truly means the world.

Thank you for helping me bring dance to more children, more communities, and more places where it’s needed most. ✨
