Standing with Miyom: Supporting His Long Road to Recovery

On Friday evening, August 22, 2025, 7-year-old Miyom was struck by a vehicle while riding his scooter in the Painted Woods neighborhood of Waukee. In an instant, the lives of Deng’s family were forever changed.

Miyom was rushed to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with severe brain injuries. He is under constant medical care, and his recovery will be a long, difficult journey—one filled with uncertainty, but also with hope.

As you can imagine, the family has put everything on hold to remain by their son’s side each day. This has meant stepping away from work and facing the heavy financial strain of daily living expenses.

While their primary focus will always be on Miyom’s healing, the reality is that they need support to sustain their family during this time.
