Wednesday afternoon, Mitch – husband, father of four, grandpa, brother and brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend, and coworker,– suffered a heart attack and collapsed at work. Thank God he was at work at Meriter Hospital, where his amazing coworkers jumped in immediately and started life saving measures to give him a fighting chance. While the "widow maker" didn't take him, Mitch's heart did stop six times. He is currently on maximum life support in the ICU. They have briefly brought him in and out of sedation a few times, and Teena and the kids have been able to see that he is still in there fighting. This is truly the fight of Mitch's life, and we kindly ask you to pray for him, Teena, and their children as they navigate the unknown path ahead of them.
In true Mitch fashion, his stubborn spirit has already shown through as he's tried to reach for and rip out the life-saving tubes. The medical team will be keeping him sedated until surgery, hoping to allow his heart to rest and become strong enough to undergo the next step of a major bypass surgery which is scheduled for Monday, May 19th. If you know Mitch, you know he is the last person to ever ask for help – actually, he'd probably be furious with us right now for even putting this out there! But that is ok, we all hope he wakes up and tells us how mad he is; that would be a true blessing. Mitch and his family are facing endless days in the hospital, followed by a long road of recovery, cardiac rehabilitation, and an extended period of Mitch being unable to work.
Right now, Teena and the kids are exactly where they need to be – right by Mitch's side. Please consider sending your support to the Nelson family so they can continue to stay at Mitch’s side during this challenging time. Mitch is known for his stubborn determination, his incredible strength, and his boundless generosity. He would do anything for those he cares about, and now he and his family need our support as he battles this critical health challenge. Please keep the prayers coming, thank you so much for your continued support ❤️
