This GoFundMe was originally created to help cover the overwhelming medical expenses during Mitch's courageous 8 month hospital stay and 5 year battle with a rare and aggressive form of liver cancer.
On the morning of November 26,2025, Mitch's fight came to a peaceful end. Surrounded by his devoted family who never left his side, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At just 30 years old, Mitch is now whole, healed, and resting in the arms of the One he loved and served so faithfully.
Though the original purpose of this fundraiser has changed, the needs remain very real. We are keeping this page active to help Mitch's beloved wife, Abby, ease the burden of the medical bills and final expenses that remain after these long months in the hospital.
I'll be sharing a little bit of what Abby wrote below, but first I wanted to tell you about Mitch and Abby and the love they shared.
Mitch and Abby's story began when they were children. Him 5, her just 3. Their families were already close friends. They began dating when they were 16 and 18. They were friends, then best friends and she often referred to Mitch in that way these last few months. Seven years ago, they stood before God, family, and friends and joyfully promised to love one another "in sickness and in health...Until death do us part"
No one imagines keeping that vow so soon.
In the time they were husband and wife, and especially through Mitch's illness, their marriage became a breathtaking testimony of covenant love, unshakable faith, and the complete dependence on God. Anyone who spent even a moment with them felt it-their love for Jesus was first. Their love for each other, a close second, and it shown brightly even in the darkest days.
"Until death do us part" is a phrase every couple says with Hope. Mitch and Abby lived with the grace no one should have to at 28 and 30 years old.
Abby and Mitch were truly grateful and humbled by all the support given these past years and especially these last 8 months in so many ways and Abby wants to thank each one of you.
If you are able, we humbly ask that you continue giving to this gofundme to help Abby carry the financial weight she now faces alone. Every gift, no matter the size, is a tangible way to wrap your arms around her in the season of loss.
But even more than financial help, Abby has asked that you please keep praying-for her, for Mitch's parents and siblings, for their extended families, ad for the many friends whose hearts are hurting right now. Pray that they would feel the nearness of God, the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and the love of the body of Christ surrounding them in the days, week, and months ahead.
Thank you for loving Mitch and Abby so well while he was here, and for continuing to love Abby now that Mitch is Home.
Here are Abby's words from November 26th as she shares about Mitchell.
' It is with a heavy heart that I share that Mitchell went to be with Jesus this morning. He received his ultimate miracle. Maybe not in the way we were hoping, but we are so grateful in knowing Mitch is with Jesus. Even in his last weeks, being on the ventilator and without being able to speak, was still touching lives. An example of this was two nights before he passed, the nurse added on a shift just to take care of Mitch. She stated o us that there was something about him that was different. We know that this was the Holy Spirit in him ad we were able to share his testimony with her and so many others.
Thank you all for all your love and support over the past 8 months, but more importantly over the last 4 years. These are the truths that we have clung to and that have shaped our hope and faith in Jesus: The Lord is sovereign, the Lord is good, the Lord is merciful, the Lord is gracious, the Lord loves deeply, and the Lord's timing is perfect.'-Abby
...please feel free to share this page and pass along Mitch's story which is a shining testament to faith, love and purpose.
His testimony continues on through you and through the countless lives he impacted.
With deepest gratitude.
This GoFundMe is set up to help with medical bills and associated costs for Mitchell Brummel and his fight against Fibrolamellar Carcinoma.
Meet Mitch!
History - Three and a half years ago, Mitch was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Fibrolamellar Carcinoma. At that time, he had major abdominal surgery to remove primary tumors. Since then, Mitch has been on various forms of cancer treatments, including chemo/immunotherapy combinations every other week, radiology to the neck, and a Y-90 radiation bead procedure.
Even with these treatments, Mitch has continued to have cancer growth and just recently added a new chemotherapy to his treatment plan in hopes of shrinking these tumors.
Recent History - Three weeks ago, Mitch developed severe abdominal pain and went to an urgent care while in Nebraska for a wedding. After returning home to California, the abdominal pain persisted, and Mitch was scheduled for a liver biopsy, which took place 2 weeks ago. This biopsy unfortunately resulted in a liver hematoma as well as a bile duct blockage that landed him in the hospital for 4 days and required another procedure to try to fix it. Mitch continued to have severe abdominal pain and was unable to function normally, landing back in the emergency room.
Currently - Since Thursday of last week, Mitch has been in the hospital and developed a fever and sepsis. He has been fighting off an uncommon abdominal infection. It is unknown at this time how long Mitch will be in the hospital. Many things need to take place before he is allowed to return home, the most important being negative blood cultures.
We, the friends and loved ones of Mitch and Abby, are asking for your much-appreciated donations to help with the costs of medical bills, food, and gas as they travel distances for hospital stays, and supplemental income as Mitch is unable to work at this time and Abby has had to cut her hours at work significantly to be by Mitch's side.
For those of you who know Mitch directly, you probably agree with me that you have been blessed by having this godly man in your life. Mitchell is very bold in sharing his faith, never shying away from sharing about Jesus to any nurse, doctor, patient, or patient care assistant that he might encounter. Through his journey, Mitch has kept a smile on his face and the joy of the Lord in his heart. He continues to be steadfast in putting his mind on Jesus in the midst of pain and continues to pursue a deeper relationship with Him.
We humbly ask for your consideration to come alongside Mitch and Abby financially at this time. Mitch and Abby greatly appreciate prayer support as well as they continue to navigate this journey they are on to improve Mitch's health and continue the fight.
With Much Love and Appreciation,
The friends and family of Mitchell Brummel
