Support Misty's Path to Full Recovery

Donation protected

Misty’s tale is a rough one, but with your help she can be back on all four feet in just a few months. I discovered Misty when I was at the shelter helping another dog and I noticed her desperate human carrying her with an 8-inch laceration on her leg that she sustained when she fell down a hill. They had been to every veterinarian in her area but were turned away because they had no resources to pay for an appointment and likely surgery.

I told her human that I could help and I found it quickly from Paws In Need (great organization!), which provided a significant donation that helped her get through surgery and narrowly avoid a full leg amputation. However, unbeknownst to me, her owner was homeless and couldn’t provide adequate post-surgery care and contacted me a few days later informing me that Misty wasn’t doing well. Upon taking her to the vet again, it was determined that Misty needed another surgery to do a skin graft to cover the wound. So, given the circumstances of her owner, Misty is now being cared for by a wonderful foster mom who is taking exquisite care of her, insuring she stays calm and is getting all of her antibiotics and pain medications which were difficult to administer before. She is also getting many kisses to aid in her recovery!

Misty is out of immediate danger, but her vet bills are now in the thousands, and she’ll still need many months of twice-weekly wound care. She’s a very sweet girl and her family loved her greatly, but they were struggling to support themselves, much less unexpected veterinary costs. Any amount will help, and I know her family is extremely grateful for the community’s support. They offered to help with fundraising, but I wanted them to focus on getting back on their feet financially. They’re also grateful that Misty’s foster mom, Charlie, is taking care of her and I know they will continue to make decisions that are in the best interest of Misty. This is a perfect example of “It takes a village” and I’m so grateful for the support I’ve already received, including a wonderful veterinarian who gave up his Thanksgiving holiday to perform Misty’s first surgery. Thank you to everyone for helping me get Misty back on all four feet.
