A fire broke out across the hall from my sister Missy's apartment late last week. Firefighters had to enter her apartment to fight the flames, and unfortunately, she and my niece Bailey lost a lot of their belongings due to the thick, black smoke pouring in.

They may be able to save some furniture pieces and a few other things, but a lot of it could not be saved.

Thankfully, Missy and Bailey are okay, along with their dog, Blue, and kitty, Gizmo, who was found hiding under a bed by a firefighter.

She was told her apartment got it the worst and has to be completely gutted, which will take months, leaving them staying in a hotel until they can find a new place to live.

Unfortunately, she did not have renter's insurance, and the cost of starting over and replacing everything they need is going to be overwhelming.
