Why We’re Raising Funds
Handwork is a cornerstone of Waldorf education. It stimulates creativity and appreciation for beauty, while at the same time developing the will.
The will is the power within us that allows us to interact with the world. It is the power to do, to create, and to work. But, most importantly, the will lays the foundation for thinking.
The Juniper School's Handwork teacher, Miss Hollie, guides students through knitting, felting, spinning, and sewing projects that nurture not only fine motor skills but also patience, focus, problem solving and creativity. These crafts strengthen academic learning, calm the nervous system, and help children develop a lifelong sense of confidence.
What We Need
Using natural fibers helps our students connect to the natural world and its rhythms. This year Miss Hollie’s classroom needs some essentials to continue this beautiful work.
We’re raising $885 to provide the following materials for our students:
- 20 pairs of size 10 wooden knitting needles: $6 each = $120
- 65 balls of 100% wool yarn: $9 each = $585
- Wool roving for drop spindle spinning = $100
With these materials our students will be able to make flute cases, rainbow balls, hats, lions, scarves, and more.
Why It Matters
Handwork in Waldorf education is about more than knitting or sewing. It teaches focus, perseverance, creativity, and care, skills that ripple into all areas of a child’s development.
Every donation we collect for this campaign directly supports our students’ hands-on learning experience, helping them craft something beautiful and build the inner qualities. We need these funds to complete this year’s Handwork curriculum.
