Support Misophonia Treatment Research

Tax deductible
We need your help! You can make a difference by donating today to fund the Misophonia Institute 2025 treatment study.

Does the sound of others chewing fill you with rage, disgust, or anxiety? Do other noises or sights have similar effects? That's misophonia. Misophonia Institute promotes professional and public awareness of misophonia, and supports misophonia research and development of treatments.

I, Tom Dozier, have researched misophonia for the past 12 years and have looked for academic partners to conduct groundbreaking research on misophonia. I founded Misophonia Institute to support and help fund misophonia research based on what we have learned from literally thousands of people. Psychologist Nate Mitchell, PhD, and I published a theory of misophonia article which is now listed in PubMed (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37881332/). We now have an opportunity to apply this model of misophonia plus Nate's and my experience in a pilot treatment study in conjunction with Dr. Sam Spencer of University of North Texas.

Dr. Spencer directs the Texas Intervention Development and Behavioral Science Lab at the University of North Texas, which has a goal to "develop, refine, and test interventions for alleviating suffering and promoting prosperity in diverse groups of individuals with a range of mental health challenges," including misophonia.

WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT! Dr Spencer will recruit one or two PhD graduate students to provide much of the work to implement this treatment study. To successfully recruit high quality PhD candidates, we need funding for the PhD student. We need $50,000 now, and an additional $50,000 in the fall to fund the pilot treatment study. Every donation counts, no matter the amount.

The goal of this pilot study is to show the effectiveness of various components of misophonia treatment and refine the treatment protocol for a larger randomized controlled trial. Based on the expected findings (success) of the pilot study, we hope and expect to receive funding from the Misophonia Research Fund for future years.

Now is the time to make a difference in the development of misophonia treatment. Now is the time to support Dr. Spencer, who is happy to build on the practical treatment experience of Tom Dozier and Nate Mitchell. Now is the time for your year-end donations for tax deductions.

We hope and trust you will come to our aid and appreciate you for doing so.

There is an Irish saying, "Many hands make the work light." Please be our helping hands in this important research.

Thank you.
