The Save Miramar Team is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the Duxbury and Kingston communities seeking legal representation regarding the proposed 40B development at the former Miramar Retreat Center.

The proposal would bring approximately 100 new homes to a 30-acre property overlooking Kingston Bay. For many in the community, this is not a small change. It is a major project in a uniquely sensitive location with important environmental, historical, infrastructure, and public-safety concerns. Out communities believe this proposal deserves a thorough, independent review before any decisions are made that could permanently change the property and the surrounding area.

Chapter 40B is a specialized state permitting process that can significantly limit the scope of local review, which is why qualified legal and technical guidance is so important from the very beginning.

100% of the funds raised will help support the due process mission to Save Miramar, experienced legal counsel and independent professional resources to carefully evaluate the proposed development and, where appropriate, legally challenge key issues involving:
  • Wetlands and environmental protection
  • Endangered species and protected habitat
  • Native American history and potential archaeological resources
  • Water consumption, groundwater, and neighboring wells
  • Wastewater treatment, sewer capacity, and long-term impacts
  • Traffic, roadway capacity, and emergency access
  • Chapter 40B permitting and other applicable laws and regulations
Massachusetts guidance makes clear that a comprehensive permit does not eliminate state environmental permitting requirements, and local bodies still retain important authority in certain areas.

This campaign is about due process, not politics. The Duxbury and Kingston communities understand the need for additional housing, and this effort is not about opposing affordable housing. It is about making sure that a development of this scale is properly studied, responsibly designed, and fully compliant with laws intended to protect the environment, water resources, public safety, and historic resources.

The developer has attorneys, engineers, architects, and consultants working on its behalf, and the community deserves the ability to have its own experts at the table. Whether you live in Duxbury, Kingston, or the surrounding communities, please consider donating and sharing this campaign. Every contribution will help fund the legal and technical expertise needed to make sure the community’s concerns are heard and that every appropriate avenue of review and appeal is fully considered.

Help protect Miramar, the environment, water, history, and the community.  Thank you for your support!
