Asking For Help With Survival And Necessary Medical Care

Donation protected
Some of you might be familiar with the bumpy ride I’ve been on since my husband Jeff passed away from Covid in 2021.

I spent years living as a transient in increasingly unstable and even dangerous environments. I came close to being homeless but was able to find campaign work that finally left me positioned to rent a modest apartment of my own with my beloved Minnie cat.

Unfortunately, the nature of campaign work is that it ends after Election Day. I’ve been searching for work for 6 months now, sending hundreds of resumes, but I still haven’t secured employment. In that time, I’ve exhausted all of the money I saved during the time I was working and tapped out all of my credit. That, along with some help from dear friends and family, has kept me (barely) afloat.

I’ve also been battling increasing health challenges that I’m unable to treat because of how prohibitively expensive healthcare is in this nation. I’m suffering from severe peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet from untreated diabetes. It was just after my work ended that I was no longer able to pretend that the excruciating pain I experience on a daily basis was just a natural result of aging. I need to seek help so that I can finally get the medication I need to be functional. I would be okay with taking a job in retail to help me get by, but right now I can’t spend more than a few minutes standing before experiencing sharp pain in my feet and numbness in my legs.

More than anything, what I want is to work. If anyone reading this has a lead for remote work, please let me know. Those who have worked with me in the past will vouch for how much I can give to whatever I’m asked to do. My body might be weak, but my mind is still strong.

Right now, I’m trying to raise money to assure my rent and main bills can be met in the coming month while I continue my job search. I also have looked into getting lab work done and with the cost for the tests, the necessary doctor appointment and the likelihood of being prescribed medications without the benefit of insurance, the estimate I came up with is $500.

That’s why I’m trying to meet a goal of $3500 to help me while I get on my feet. I’m stubborn and independent, so it’s hard to ask you for this help. But I also know that there are times to put aside pride and ask for the help I need to survive these trying times. I’d be so grateful for whatever you can do, and I’ll find a way to give back to you in whatever way I can. Thank you so much.
