We are raising money for local Hispanic restaurants and their staff in Minneapolis and the West Metro, focusing on Mexico City Cafe. These businesses are the heart of our community, but right now, they’re facing an unprecedented crisis.
Recently, the owner of Mexico City Cafe—a neighbor and friend—reached out to share what’s happening. Their restaurant is closed, and even though some days they can open, their staff, many of whom are legal citizens, are too afraid to leave their homes. The fear is real: the owner’s sister, a legal citizen, was pulled over by masked men in an unmarked vehicle, thrown to the ground, and left shaken. These ICE actions are hurting our community physically, emotionally, and financially.
The funds raised will go directly to keeping restaurant staff employed and making sure they can still receive money while their workplaces are closed. Any extra support will be donated to food shelves in St. Louis Park and Golden Valley to help families who are also struggling.
Please help us share this story beyond Minnesota. People across the country need to know what’s happening here, and every donation—no matter the size—will help keep families afloat and show them they are not alone. Thank you for standing with us.
