Support Mindy's Life-Changing Surgery

Hi, I’m Mindy Anomaly—a 41-year-old transgender woman reaching out for support as I take a major step toward gender-affirming care.

I’m finally at a place where I can pursue two surgeries that are vital to my transition and well-being: facial feminization surgery and hair transplants. These procedures will help me feel more at home in my body, reflect who I truly am, and offer a level of peace and safety I’ve been working toward my entire life.

Unfortunately, neither of these surgeries are covered by insurance, and the out-of-pocket costs are significant—up to $45,000 altogether.

I live on less than $1,000 a month through Social Security, which barely covers rent, food, and medications. There’s simply no way I can afford these surgeries on my own. I’ve worked so hard to get to this point in my transition, but I need help to take the next step.

This care isn’t about vanity—it’s about survival. It’s about being able to walk down the street without fear, to look in the mirror and see myself, and to live with the dignity and peace that every person deserves.

A little about me:

I’ve known I was transgender since I was five years old. When I first tried to come out, I was met with anger and violence. My father was furious, and I was bullied and beaten by other kids. I learned quickly that it wasn’t safe to be myself. I went back into the closet and stayed there for years—growing up in a home marked by addiction, instability, and emotional pain.

In high school, I started coming out again, and in March 2023—after decades of hiding—I finally began my medical transition. I’m now 41, and while I wish I could’ve started sooner, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made.

My journey hasn’t been easy. My mother stopped speaking to me when I was 18. More recently, when I was jailed, my father refused to bail me out—even though the money was mine and right there. I had it. He just wouldn’t use it to help me. I ended up spending six months inside, not because I had to, but because he chose to leave me there. I live with several serious mental health diagnoses, and I’ve attempted suicide in the past. There were times when I didn’t think I’d make it.

But I did. I’m here. I see a therapist at least once a month, and I have a psychologist who helps me manage my medications. I'm doing the work to stay grounded and keep going.

I’m also a genius—just one that’s been through too much, in a world that never made space for me. My mind works in wild, creative, beautiful ways, but between trauma, disability, and a system that punishes difference, I’ve never been able to function in the traditional sense. I’ve only ever been able to hold one job, which I lost after two months—not because I lacked ability, but because I was too mentally unwell to keep it together.

I’ve struggled to keep stable housing and even a phone at times due to intense paranoia. But through it all, I’ve kept going. One of the few places I’ve felt safe, creative, and loved has been in the furry community. Through fursuiting, I’ve found joy, connection, and a way to share happiness with others.

These surgeries are not luxuries—they’re part of the medical care that lets me live as myself. They represent safety, confidence, and healing. But I can’t do this alone.
