***LATEST UPDATE***
Milo will be undergoing his surgery at BluePearl Animal Hospital tomorrow morning (May 8th, 2025)
The team has been absolutely lovely in guiding us through this process and helping us feel comfortable leaving our fur baby in their care. The official estimate quoted to us is now just under $6,000

These last few days have tugged at our animal loving heart strings, in ways we’ve not yet experienced; both in stressful and rewarding ways. With new responsibilities in our home, Bobby and I would appreciate any help we can get.
On May 5th, our sweet Milo (gray & white) got into a tussle with his brother Cam (orange) when suddenly he ran off & started yowling in pain. We quickly found him agitated and not putting any weight on his back right leg.
After a visit to the emergency vet, we came to learn that Milo has been expertly hiding symptoms of Legg-Perthes Disease, a condition that limits/restricts blood flow to the femur. Overtime, this causes deterioration to the ball joint/head of the femur, leading to hip pain & damage. That said, something as simple as rough housing with his brother can cause a fracture, and that’s exactly what happened.
Milo is currently on pain meds, as comfortable as we can make him at home and awaiting consultations from his primary vet as well as an alternative surgeon our families have used in the past. We know he’ll need a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) to allow him to walk comfortably again and do all the things he loves (including stealing salmon right off the counter when he thinks no one is watching).
The surgery so far is being estimated at anywhere between $5-7k depending on how severe the damage is once he’s on the operating table.
In addition to Milo being our first priority, we are also in search of assistance with a stray kitty (tabby mix) we took in and have been fostering since Friday, May 2nd.
Little man has no chip and is not neutered, but looks to otherwise be in good health. He is incredibly sweet & loves affection (from humans) - definitely seems like he ran away from home or got dumped. “No Name” was barely dodging traffic and hiding under parked cars when we found him on the corner of Grace & Kimball in Irving Park, Chicago.
We’ve posted on all the Facebook pages we could find, hung up flyers in the area, and have been searching for lost pet flyers as well. We plan to keep him in our custody, safe & sound - instead of being in a crate at a shelter or pet store all alone; he really flourishes around people. Once enough time has passed, we plan to set him up with One Tail at a Time’s “foster to adopt” program so we can continue getting to know him & hopefully finding him the loving family he deserves. Unfortunately, we don’t think our boys will ever fully welcome him. In the meantime, we want to ensure we have enough resources to keep all three babies happy in our home.
In summary, Bobby and I are looking to raise funds to help ease our financial burden as we navigate keeping our own fur baby healthy & comfortable while also doing all we can to ensure someone else’s fur baby finds his way back home if not a new and loving forever home.
Thank you for any support you can provide!
Any funds that exceed our overall expenses or this goal will be donated to a local animal charity and/or shelter.
