Mike is my brother-in-law and a decorated, retired NYC police officer and 9-11 first responder who has always put others first. He won awards in the NYPD for arrests of bank robbers wanted in the area, and chasing/capturing criminals in additional armed robberies. Once retiring from the NYPD, he continued to work full-time as a public school security officer in order to provide for his growing family. Mike continued to receive awards within the school district, including a proclamation from Nick Caracappa (Suffolk County Legislature) for capturing an individual who actively posed as an armed security threat on school grounds. Recently, he faced a life-changing surgery to treat complications from diabetes, resulting in the loss of his foot as well as continued effects from sepsis following a blood transfusion. Despite the best efforts of his medical team, they were able to save everything except his left foot, and he continues to deal with kidney and vascular problems. This has been a devastating blow for Mike and his family, especially since his limited medical insurance does not cover the mounting bills and necessary aftercare.

To make matters even more challenging, Mike lost his full-time job as a school security officer due to his new disability. This job was essential for supporting his wife and three children, and now they are facing an uncertain future as they adjust to this new reality. The emotional and financial strain has been overwhelming, but Mike continues to show incredible strength and resilience every day.
