Mike went on vacation to spend some time with family for Thanksgiving in North Carolina. Unfortunately, while they were on their trip, his wife Bernadette fell critically ill, requiring an airlift from Boone, NC for emergency surgery at the closest trauma hospital, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was taking care of her and thankfully she has made a great recovery.
However, in their travels back and forth to the hospital, Mike felt shortness of breath that required his own unexpected hospital stay. Within 12 hours of admission, Mike was emergently intubated requiring ventilator support and sedation. He has remained intubated for 23 days. Insurance will not cover his transport from North Carolina to Pittsburgh where he and his whole family reside. He is still critically ill in the intensive care unit, 7 hours from us and we want to bring him home. He is going to require many more weeks of inpatient medical care that will not be in Pittsburgh unless we cover the cost of transportation.
Please consider donating to his medical transportation costs to get Mike to our local trauma hospital here in Pittsburgh!
