On Thursday, June 12th, 2025, our lives changed forever. My husband, Mike, suffered a sudden and severe left side brain bleed stroke.
Mike was airlifted by helicopter to Springfield Memorial Hospital where he continues to be.
Initially, he was admitted to trauma ICU then to Neuro ICU then to intermediate room then to a regular room and NOW in the intensive therapy unit.
His initial symptoms were receptive and expressive aphasia diagnosed but NO swallowing issues!!, double/blurry vision, and right side weakness of his arm and leg.
As of today, Friday, June 20th, Mike's speech has improved significantly with small deficits seen here and there, his vision is still blurry using both eyes so we got an eye patch to wear on occasion as looking with one eye is a bit better, he is able to use his right arm but you can see some issues with fine motor skills, and Mike's right leg is weak but he has been doing good standing with assist and walking short distances.
He is currently in the hospital facing a long recovery that will include rehabilitation, physical therapy, and time off work.
Therapy is going to be intense but our goal is to bring Mike home as quickly and safely as possible.
We are asking for your help to ease the financial strain this has placed on our family so we can focus on what matters most: Mike's healing.
Funds will be used throughout Mike's recovery process, including hospital bills, rehab, home modifications (ramp, hand rails, and handicap toilet with grab bars, in home care assistance, and lost income during this time of healing.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story. Whether you're able to donate, share this page, or simply keep us in your thoughts and prayers, we are deeply grateful for your support during this incredibly difficult time.
Every contribution-no matter the size-helps us take one step closer to recovery and stability. Your kindness means more to us than words can express.
With love and gratitude,
Mike and Jennifer Cooper
