Hello friends,
Mike here! As difficult as it is, it seems it’s unexpectedly our turn to ask for a little help. On May 25, 2025, my wife had a stroke while driving down Davis Blvd with one of our kids in the car. Thankfully, our daughter was, by a miracle, able to get the car into a parking lot and call for help. The ambulance came and rushed her to Medical City. They administered a new, life-saving drug that stopped the brain damage from spreading. She was in the ICU for almost three weeks. During her stay, they ran tests, did procedures, put a permanent implant in her chest to monitor her heart, and worked her in therapy. Her left side was affected, and she lost the ability to walk. She requires speech therapy to help with swallowing, speech, and memory. She has something called Post Central Stroke Pain Disorder (which is awful nerve pain throughout the body while the nerves try to heal). She missed our kid graduating salutatorian, her grandmother passed in a horrific accident locally just days after her stroke, and her sister-in-law just passed from a sudden illness on July 13. It’s been an awful couple of months, to say the least.
My immediate concerns are everyone’s mental health and keeping our house afloat financially. I, of course, have been doing everything I can to take care of her, the kids, our home, and work. We were a two-income household and are now a one-income household. I’m working my job and side jobs to try and keep us afloat until we get through this very difficult time. I am happy to take on as much work as possible, but there are only so many leads and so many hours in the day. The doctors think because of her age and sheer stubbornness, lol, she’ll recover enough to be mobile eventually. The experts remind us often, though, that stroke recovery is measured in months, not days. So, we know this storm will pass, and the sun will come out again…we just have to endure for now. I think if the financial burden is relieved a bit, she will feel less guilty and more positive about the immediate future. If you are able to contribute, we will absolutely pay it forward the first opportunity we get. If you aren’t able, please send any prayers or good vibes our way! Thank you so much!
