Hello everyone,
On February 1st, 2026, Mike was diagnosed with stage 4 anaplastic thyroid cancer.
Since that day, Mike has been an absolute warrior. He’s already beaten the odds more times than we can count.
After his diagnosis, he was placed on a ventilator for weeks because the tumor was crushing his airway. Doctors tried to place a tracheostomy twice at John Muir, but both times they had to abort the surgery. He was then transferred to UCSF, where he fought through maximum-dose targeted chemotherapy. He later successfully received a tracheostomy on his third attempt — something they once thought was impossible.
He endured dangerous complications, including a fever of 105 degrees and a heart rate of 200. He even flatlined at one point but was brought back. Through all of this, Mike pushed through severe withdrawals after sedation was stopped and continued fighting when many thought he wouldn’t make it.
He then completed five intense rounds of radiation in just one week and is now at a rehab facility in Kentfield, working hard every single day to regain his strength and mobility.
Mike has defied so many expectations and medical predictions. His strength, determination, and will to live have inspired every single person who knows him.
We are so grateful for every extra day we’ve been given with him. Any support you can give will help him continue this fight, focus on his recovery, and work toward coming home.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers, and support. Mike is still here, still fighting, and we believe in him with everything we have. He is far from being 100%, but he's well on his way in the right direction. All of his doctors were coming around to see for themselves how even when there's nothing more they can do, miracles do happen. Mike is proof that as long as you don't give up on yourself, it's possible to recover. You just need to believe in your heart that no matter what anyone says, things can turn around at any moment. Mike is only 50 years old; this is such a rare situation for someone his age. He's got a 13 year old son who means the world to him. The doctor made a point to tell me that there are some dark areas sometimes, where doctors are wrong, and that Mike is living proof. He wants everyone to know how grateful he is for all of the love, support, and visits. He deserves every bit of it He's a great person.. does nothing but help people. The doctors at the Kentfield Specialty Hospital are talking about removing his trache and his feeding tube because the tumors in his throat have shown significant shrinkage. He's got a long road ahead of him and needs to learn how to walk so he can prove to the ones who didn't believe in him that they were wrong. Like Mike has said many times ... "if you knew better you'd do better."
