Mike’s Devastating Situation

We’re reaching out with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits to support our friend, Mike Tyler, as he recovers from a severe hemorrhagic stroke at only 40 years old.

On Thursday, July 31st, Mike did not show up for work–without calling in–which is very uncharacteristic of him. After his leader was unable to reach him, he called Mike’s emergency contact. Mike’s sister went to check on him and found him unconscious on the floor. She rushed him to the ER, saving his life and preventing further damage. He was admitted to the ICU, where doctors determined he had suffered a severe stroke. This sudden, unimaginable event has changed his life forever.

Doctors are hopeful that Mike will make a full recovery, but it will be a long and challenging journey. He will likely be unable to work for at least 3–6 months. To make matters more difficult, Mike does not have short-term or long-term disability insurance, making the financial burden even more acute and stressful for him and his family.

While Mike is recovering, significant expenses will continue to mount—and without the ability to work or access any other source of income, he cannot cover them on his own. He will also be unable to pay for his daily living costs.

Some of the major expenses include:
  • Medical bills
  • Physical Therapy
  • Rehabilitation
  • Medicine
  • Specialized equipment
  • Rent
  • Utilities
  • Vehicle expenses
  • Food

Help from the community is crucial in this situation. We estimate Mike's costs to be around $10,000 per month, totaling $60,000 during his recovery.

Mike is young, strong, and tough, but stress can be detrimental to recovery. Together, we can help ease the financial burden and let Mike focus on healing.

Who is Mike?

Mike is as kind and charismatic as they come, touching the lives of his family, friends, coworkers, and community. He helps care for his mom—keeping her company, bringing home-cooked meals, and even supporting her financially at times. He cherishes family gatherings and makes the most of his time with loved ones. As the "cool uncle," he strives to be a positive influence on his nieces and nephews every chance he gets. This time of year—summer festival season—has always been his favorite.

Mike is deeply invested in his community. He has participated in local projects, including lead paint removal in the inner city. He often talks about starting a nonprofit to mentor struggling kids, helping them understand how the world works so they can make better decisions and have brighter futures. Mike always puts others before himself—he wants everyone to succeed, be happy, and stay out of trouble. That’s the kind of person he is.

Your support will allow Mike to focus on healing without fear of losing his home or missing critical treatment.
