Abbey Salzman was woken by a call from her husband, who had miraculously climbed out of his mangled car to call his work and his wife before collapsing on the side of the road. Mike Salzman was up early heading to his job as a train engineer the morning of Sept 5th, when he was in a life-altering car accident. He sustained very serious injuries and was taken to ECMC. Numerous CAT scans, X-rays, and a full-body MRI determined the extent to which Mike was injured. His L-2 vertebra in his spine burst into multiple pieces, and his C-6, T-11, and T-12 were fractured. He is still able to feel his feet and move his legs. He has a concussion and is waiting on ortho to verify the potential fracture to his pelvis. His surgery was postponed several days waiting for a full blood panel to clear him for surgery as the already complex and delicate situation was further complicated by his blood clotting disorder, making the surgery a high-risk procedure. Mike has now had the surgery and has a very long road to recovery ahead of him.
Mike is the definition of a family man, a loving father and husband. He and his wife Abbey have a beautiful family. Mike prides himself on providing for his family and has an unbelievable work ethic. He is a devoted friend, an active member in his church, and an outdoorsman. Mike has a generous heart and would help anyone in need without anything ever expected in return.
Abbey homeschools the couple's four children; therefore, Mike is the sole provider for his family, and they depend on his railroad income. The money raised would be used to help the family with medical bills, gas money, and also to support the family during the time that Mike is out of work to pay bills, buy groceries, and any other needs. The weight of the financial burden being lightened on them would enable Abbey to focus her energy on care for her husband on his road to recovery, and their children. It would also allow Mike to focus on his healing and know that his family would not suffer hardship during this difficult time.
Prayers for the Salzman family would be the greatest gift that anyone can give. If you are in a position to also bless them financially, any amount you can donate would be so greatly appreciated. If you can share this post, that would be a huge blessing to this amazing man and family!
