In February 2026, at the young age of 51, Mike was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This cruel, unrelenting disease turns your body against you, attacking your ability to move, speak, eat, and so much more. Although they say there is no cure, we all know Mike and he will never give up fighting this disease.
Mike is an awesome and very loving husband to Dana for the past 22 years and an amazing, adventurous and fun dad to Michael, Louis, and Dominick. You always found Mike supporting his boys at either the Hockey Rink, Basketball Court or Boy Scout event.
Known as Mr. Sag to his students, he has dedicated 27 years to teaching children, most recently at Riverside Elementary in the Rockville Centre School District. His impact on his students and community is immeasurable, and he is cherished by all who know him.
As Mike’s need for around-the-clock care increases daily, his family is working tirelessly to renovate their home so Mike can remain with Dana and the boys. The diagnosis has forced Mike into early retirement, resulting in a significant loss of income, and the family is now facing mounting medical expenses, many of which are not covered by insurance.
Funds raised through this campaign will help ease the financial burden on Mike, Dana, and their boys. Your support will go directly toward home renovations for accessibility, covering non-covered medical expenses, and helping the family manage the loss of income.
