UPDATE MAY 29, 2026
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the outpouring of love and generosity for Mike Iniguez as he faces cancer. Your support has carried Lorena and Mike through unimaginable days, giving them strength, comfort, and hope when they needed it most.
While surgeries removed tumors, further tests revealed the cancer has spread to other major organs. The prognosis is grave. Despite insurance covering a large portion of care, Mike’s remaining medical balance exceeds $200,000 — a staggering burden on the family.
Mike has chosen to stop further treatment and spend his remaining time at home, surrounded by family and held in their love and care. Your contributions now can lift a heavy weight from their shoulders and allow them to focus on being together. Any gift, large or small, will mean more than words can say.
With a heavy heart and much gratitude for your continued love and support,
Julia Hauben
Even when medicine cannot heal the body, the love of community can heal the heart. Thank you for standing with Mike and Lorena in this tender, sacred time.Farmer Mike Iniguez has proudly farmed in the Santa Barbara area for over 60 years, providing our community with year round delicious produce. A deeply humble and gentle soul, Mike's passion for organic growing comes from his dedication to protecting nature. Deep kindness and generosity are the backbone of his character.
The time has come for us to help him fight for his life.
Mike was diagnosed with stage 4 mesothelioma. He just underwent
a 16 hour surgery. He is now about to start 5 weeks of aggressive radiation treatment and is participating in a UCLA immunotherapy research trial. UCLA's Comprehensive Mesothelioma Program has been using lung-sparing surgery and innovative postoperative therapies that stress quality of life as well as survival.
Mike and Lorena have to move to Los Angeles for five weeks for Mike to undergo the radiation. Insurance covers 80% of the cost of procedure but the burden of affording a place to stay in Los Angeles falls squarely on their shoulders while the farm falls further and further behind at the most crucial planting time of the year.
It is time for us to step up and give back!
