Hello, my name is Paul Hitchcock and I am a friend of Mike Cull. This GoFundMe is being set up for Mike to deal with funeral and estate expenses as a result of Mike's mother's death and to provide some living expenses for Mike as he settles his mother's affairs, as Mike has not been able to work for almost a decade.
On Friday, February 14th, Mike's mother, Betty Cull, passed away after a long illness. Betty and Mike lived together for most of their lives and came to depend on each other for everything.
In 2015, Mike was diagnosed with cancer. After surgery and chemotherapy, the cancer went into remission, but Mike's life was forever changed. Mike developed severe neuropathy, depression and other conditions that limited his ability to be independent; as a result Mike was unable to work and at times, even leave the house. The one thing that kept Mike going was his mother and needing to be there for her to the best of his ability.
Betty was an incredible woman, earning her bachelor's and master's degrees at a time where that was far from normal. She worked for the Westminster school district for years, and after retiring, volunteered for the school district up until her death.
Betty faced cancer 5 times and each time was lucky enough to have the cancer go into remission. Unfortunately the bouts with cancer and other issues took a toll and Betty found herself weaker and weaker as the years progressed. As other issues arose Betty and Mike depended on each other for help. Mike's father passed away years earlier and Mike and Betty have only had each other for support and assistance in Colorado.
In December 2024, Betty began a slow decline that eventually led to home hospice and her passing.
With Betty gone, Mike has incredibly limited resources to allow him to settle her affairs and provide for himself.
We are asking for your support and help so that Mike can settle his mother's affairs and estate and also have some funds for himself, while he figures out what his next steps are going to be.
We know that times are tough for almost everyone right now. Any money that you can donate will be appreciated. If you aren't able to donate, we understand, but ask that if you can, and feel comfortable doing so, you share this GoFundMe across your socials.
Thank you for taking the time to read this story and for taking the time to consider donating to support Mike in his time of loss and hardship.
