Celebrating amazing Mike and supporting the Bertino Family

To know Mike Bertino, is to know Mike loves his wife, Kim, his daughters, Rudi, Sara and Jessi, his and Kim’s large families and many, many friends. To know Mike, is to know that he is quick with a laugh, great with a grill, and a talented fisherman. To know Mike, is to know he is hard working, loves this town, and would help anyone with anything they may need.

What you might not know, is that Mike, Kim and his family need your strongest prayers right now. On October 21, Kim took Mike to immediate care as he had not been feeling well. They thought he might have the flu or a bad cold. Mike was rushed to Edwards Hospital and was soon after transferred to the University of Chicago Hospital. Mike rapidly became gravely ill, yet he has been surrounded by his family and outstanding doctors and nurses. On November 5, Mike had a liver transplant and will likely remain at the University of Chicago Hospital for the next several weeks. Mike is making progress but he and his amazing family are facing a tough battle.

Mike has a long, challenging road ahead with the hospital, a potential rehab facility, and an extensive recovery at home. Mike and Kim had been preparing for Mike’s hip replacement surgery that was scheduled for early November. This massively unexpected liver transplant has Mike and Kim on a very different path than they had planned.
