Our family is facing an unimaginable and heartbreaking situation. On Christmas evening, Michael (Mike) Baxter suffered a sudden and life-threatening medical emergency that changed everything in an instant. Mike experienced an aortic hemorrhage along with a tear in his heart valve, causing massive internal bleeding and ultimately a heart attack.

Thanks to quick medical intervention, Mike survived— something his doctors have made clear is nothing short of a miracle. They have told our family that he is not supposed to be with us today but his journey is far from over. He now faces a long, uncertain, and difficult road to recovery. Doctors have advised that the minimum amount of time before he can do any type of work or physical activity is six months, and at this time, we do not know when—or if—he will be able to return to roofing, the physically demanding work he has done his entire life.

Mike has always been fiercely independent. As a self-employed business owner, he has worked tirelessly to support himself and his family. Being suddenly unable to work has been devastating, both emotionally and financially. With no income during his recovery and medical bills continuing to grow, the burden has become overwhelming.
