***UPDATE***
First of all, thank you so much to all who have donated! Your generosity is very much appreciated.
I'm here to bring you a quick update! Due to an increase in blackouts, memory loss and fainting spells, Mikayla's neurologist has deemed surgery will be necessary moving forward. The goal of this surgery is to alleviate residual brain swelling & fluid. Afterwards, Mikayla will remain in the rehabilitation program. During this time, she'll be full time in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and neuro rehab. The surgery recovery will happen around the same time she has to move, so all funds will be directed towards medical care and and bills to offset the costs for recovery while out of work. Unfortunately, Mikayla loses health insurance soon, so the goal is to get as much resolved as possible before that happens. Thanks for reading and feel free to share!
I am a friend organizing this on behalf of Mikayla Bartholomew.
As you may know, Mikayla was in a devastating accident last year where a boulder fell on her car. With back to back brain injuries, emergency surgery, and her mom’s sudden breast cancer diagnosis, Mikayla hasn’t gotten a chance to catch her breath. This is has caused complications with her existing brain injuries. Not to mention a recent re-breaking off the bones in her face. Complications from the TBI (traumatic brain injury) have resulted in residual brain swelling and infection. Her doctors advised her to be admitted to a treatment facility for Long-term subacute care. There, she can be monitored 24/7 by a skilled, caring team. The goal is to reduce the brain swelling, pinpoint the cause of frequent fainting spells, and avoid future surgeries if possible.
Due to all this, Mikayla hasn't been able to return to work since the accident. This has caused great financial strain on top of existing medical debt. On top of that, where Mikayla lives is out of network for her insurance, so the medical bills will be even more expensive. Our goal with this fundraiser is to offset the cost for what insurance won’t cover at the care facility. That way, Mikayla doesn’t have to worry about covering the cost while unable to work, or the existing medical debt. Any extra funds will go towards the cost of any surgeries, rehab, and living expenses.
We all know that Mikayla cares so much for others, is a community organizer, and an overall ray of sunshine. Let's all try to help the girl who helps everyone else.
Thank you for reading and contributing!
