Hello, and thank you for reading my campaign.
My name is Michaela (Mika) Kimberly and I am 38 years old. On February 17th, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Inflammatory Breast Cancer. This diagnosis comes with many unknowns for me and my family, and right now we need your help.
I will need four months of chemotherapy treatments (one treatment every two weeks for a total of eight treatments), a mastectomy and six weeks of daily radiation.
In order to proceed with chemotherapy I need a chemo port placed in my chest which has been quoted at a cost of $4,190. 75% of this is required to have the port placed, with the rest being billed.
This is not something we were prepared for. My insurance coverage was canceled last year to allow us to save money and pay off a credit card. We made this decision because my regular doctor’s appointments and meds were cheaper without the insurance rates. We never expected me to be diagnosed with cancer just four months after making this decision.
I do not qualify for Texas Breast Cancer Medicaid program because our household income is too high. This has also prevented me from applying for other grants and insurance programs. Until open enrollment in November, I am without any options to pay for treatment.
Twelve years ago I was thrown from a horse and have lasting effects from it in the from of chronic daily migraines, intermittent memory loss, depression, agoraphobia and anxiety. These conditions have left me unable to work full time, tho I have tried.
My dogs are my life, Raichu is a retired service dog who does his best to help me every day. Psyduck (Ducky) is the baby of the family and also learning how to help me at home.
I am an avid plushy collector as well. I have many Build-A-Bears and Disney stuffed animals, and have recently collected a few from indie artists whose work I admire. They bring me an immense amount of comfort, and I even bring them with me to my appointments as my agoraphobia makes it hard to go outside without one on hand.
My husband and I have been married almost sixteen years and together for nearly twenty-one. He is one of my biggest supports in life and I’m not sure how I could get through things without him. We have no children, just the dogs and a sugar glider named Pikachu who are our entire worlds.
If you could please donate, share, tell a friend or send words of encouragement during this time it would help immensely. I need this port so I can start my cancer treatment as soon as possible and your help would get me one step closer to that goal. Thank you for reading.
