We’re reaching out to share the inspiring yet heartbreaking story of Mikala, a devoted wife, loving mother of four, best big sister, Army Veteran, and the creative force behind Puff Mama Cakes in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her talent for crafting beautiful cakes has brought joy to so many, but now she and her loved ones need help to navigate her medical crisis and the loss of her unborn child.
While three months pregnant, Mikala suffered life-threatening blood clots in her lungs, leading to a loss of oxygen for nearly 10 minutes and a heart attack. Tragically, she lost her unborn baby, adding grief to her journey. Doctors fought tirelessly to save her life and after six weeks in a coma, Mikala woke up three weeks ago, showing incredible resilience. She’s now talking, eating, and remembering things, working to regain movement in her arms, fingers, and legs through therapy, but cannot yet walk or see. We extend our deepest gratitude to the approximately 70 dedicated staff members at Baptist Health Medical Center and Baptist Health Rehabilitation Institute in Little Rock.
We’re overjoyed that Mikala is scheduled to return home from the rehabilitation facility on October 17th, but her family faces a new challenge: their apartment is on the second floor, and they’re not yet equipped to make it accessible for her mobility and vision needs. Mikala and her husband, also an Army Veteran, and their four young children need our support to make their home safe and manageable while covering medical and living expenses.
Donations will help with accessibility modifications for their apartment, medical and rehabilitation costs for Mikala’s ongoing recovery, essential living expenses for their family of six, and childcare and support for their children during this transition.
We’re working with the Central Arkansas VA and Disabled American Veterans for grants, but immediate needs require funding. Your support will bring hope as Mikala fights to regain her strength and one day return to creating joy through Puff Mama Cakes.
Thank you for standing with Mikala, her husband, and their four children during this challenging time. Your kindness will make a lasting difference for our incredible family member.
