Support for Miguel Angel Salazar and His Family
This fundraiser is to support Miguel Angel Salazar and our family of six with current and future expenses following a tragic medical emergency that has turned our lives upside down.
What Happened
On May 16, our beloved father, Miguel Angel Salazar, suffered a sudden and severe cardiac arrest while stopping at a gas station after work. Paramedics arrived and were able to resuscitate him after five minutes before rushing him to the nearest hospital. He spent a week in the ICU in critical condition and was diagnosed with pneumonia, cardiac arrest-related complications, potential diabetes, minor brain damage, and significant eye damage that has left him visually impaired. His physical mobility is also deeply affected.
Medical Diagnosis
Here is his official medical diagnosis, which shows just how severe and life-threatening this was:
Main diagnosis:
Cardiopulmonary Arrest With Successful Resuscitation
Also includes:
Acute Respiratory Failure With Hypoxia and Hypercapnia, Electromechanical Dissociation, Aspiration Pneumonia of Both Lower Lobes Due to Vomit, Toxic Metabolic Encephalopathy, AKI (Acute Kidney Injury), NSTEMI (Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction), Mediastinal Emphysema (Pneumomediastinum), Severe Sepsis With Shock, Non-Traumatic Rhabdomyolysis, Elevated Liver Enzymes, Bleeding in Brain, Disorder of Central Nervous System, Respiratory Insufficiency, Collapsed Lung, High Blood Pressure, Heart Arrest, Acute Confusion Due to Medical Condition, Disorder of Acid-Base Balance.
Who He Is
At just 41 years old, my father has worked tirelessly for over 20 years, always putting his family first. We had recently relocated to Washington from California after becoming homeless, hoping for a fresh start. Things were finally beginning to look up — he had secured a job, and we were close to moving into an apartment. Then, everything changed in an instant.
Why We Need Help
Although we managed to secure an apartment and pay the initial costs, our finances are now stretched beyond their limits. We’re facing potential medical bills, future appointments and treatments for his vision, and basic living expenses, rent payments — all while caring for a family of six and a dog.
Miguel spent a week in the ICU and another week in recovery at the hospital. Though he was eventually discharged, he is not the same. He is currently blind, physically weak, and facing ongoing neurological challenges. Despite this, his survival is a miracle — he can still walk, talk, and remember his loved ones. We are deeply grateful to the medical team and everyone who prayed for him.

• Job referrals: I’m a 17-year-old eager to work — I’m available for any position, any hours, and am willing to help in any way I can
• And above all: Prayer. It is through God’s mercy and everyone’s prayers that my father survived. We believe continued prayer will carry him further on the road to recovery.
