Support Miguel Gomez Jr.'s Family in Crisis

Hello everyone,

My name is Miguel Gomez Jr., and I am a student and athlete at SCAD. My family and I are currently going through a really tough time and have encountered a major hardship since my dad was detained by ICE on March 3rd of this year.

He was shot by two individuals on February 9th, and because he decided to press charges against them, they hired a private investigator who discovered that his documentation wasn’t in order.

My parents had been trying for years to fix his situation, but with no luck—mainly because they hired an immigration attorney who did nothing and took their money. The attorney representing those individuals, along with my dad’s own sister, called ICE, and they came to our home. He has been in custody since then.

We’ve had to hire new attorneys to help us navigate this situation, and my mom is now struggling financially because of everything that’s happened. My family is devastated, and we are now separated simply because we sought justice.

No one has the right to take anyone’s life, no matter the circumstances.

I truly wish we weren’t going through this, and as a family, we are praying to get through it quickly and leave it behind. I hope no one else ever has to experience something like this—it’s emotionally, physically, and mentally exhausting.

I deeply appreciate all the support and encouragement I’ve received from everyone who has reached out—my soccer coach, teammates, teachers, classmates, and even people who don’t know me very well. On behalf of my family, I thank you for any help or kindness you’ve shown us. I know my dad would be eternally grateful as well.
