My name is Miguel. Me and my family live in Minnesota and next week I start college for the first time. I also am a member of the National Guard. Yesterday my mom was detained by ICE while on the way to work. She has never committed any crime, and she has a pending application for a visa, and a valid work permit. She is a kind woman, she didn't resist the officers, and did not do anything illegal to be detained. She has followed all the rules for her immigration process.
Yesterday she was detained. Last night I became the sole caregiver for my three younger siblings. I am only 18 and we are all U.S. citizens. I don't know when my mom will come home, or if she will come home at all. I don't know what to tell my little siblings. I don't even know how to pay a utility bill - I have never done that before. Right now, this all falls to me to take care of. We do not have any extended family and my father is not in the picture. I want to take care of my family, but I don't know how that will be possible.
I don't like asking for help, but this is not only about me. I will need money for rent, bills, food, and possibly legal fees for my family. I know everyone is struggling right now, and I appreciate anything you can give us. Thank you and God bless!
