Mighty Mia-Rae’s Journey: Help Us Get Her Diabetes Service Dog
On October 2nd, our brave 5-year-old, Mia-Rae, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune disease that means her pancreas no longer makes insulin. Since that day, Mia has faced more challenges than any child should have to. Yet through every poke, every blood sugar check, and every high and low, she continues to dance, laugh, and bring joy to everyone around her.
Mia loves to play softball, draw, and is always dancing. She’s already learned how to do her own finger sticks and check her glucose on her CGM app. She’s tougher than we could’ve ever imagined.
We’re now raising funds for a diabetes service dog, who will be trained to detect dangerous changes in Mia’s blood sugar before they become life-threatening. This dog will be her constant companion, giving her more freedom and giving our family a little more peace.
Here’s what the cost includes:
$2,500 – Cost of puppy
$5,000 – Basic obedience training
$5,000 – Public access training
$6,000 – Scent training for blood sugar alerts
$2,500 – Optional delivery/travel to our city
Total: $16,000–$21,000
We need at least $500 for the waiting list deposit (with a $3,000 full deposit required before training can begin). The process takes about 10–12 months, but the impact this dog will have on Mia’s life is unexplainable.
Your donation or sharing of this post brings us one step closer to helping Mia get her companion. Thank you for being part of Mighty Mia-Rae’s journey and helping her continue to dance, create, and shine with her new furry hero by her side.
