Hi, my name is Midnight.
I’m almost 13 years old, a Lab mix, and I’ve been by my person’s side since I was just 7 weeks old. From road trips to everyday errands, I’ve gone everywhere with them. I love people deeply — sometimes a little too deeply — and I’m very vocal about it, especially when I’m on a leash. I have big “look at me!” energy paired with a soft, gentle heart.
In November of this year, we noticed something wasn’t right. Midnight developed a hematoma in her ear — a painful swelling that happens when blood and fluid collect between the layers of the ear. In simple terms, it feels tight, heavy, sore, and uncomfortable, making it hard for a dog to rest, play, or be themselves. If left untreated, it can cause permanent ear damage, chronic pain, or infection.
We immediately took her to our local veterinarian, who recommended draining the ear. We were told there was a chance it could fill again — and unfortunately, it did. Within a week, the hematoma returned, and we went back for a second drainage. This time, it came back faster and worse.
Because Midnight’s ear hematoma keeps coming back, the next recommended step is surgical treatment. In simple terms, this surgery allows the veterinarian to gently open the ear, remove the built-up blood and fluid, and then secure the ear so it can heal properly instead of filling up again.
Tiny stitches are placed to keep the layers of the ear flat while it heals. This prevents the pocket from refilling and helps reduce pain, swelling, and pressure. The goal is not cosmetic — it’s comfort, relief, and long-term healing.
Midnight is clearly uncomfortable. She isn’t playful like she used to be, and it’s heartbreaking to see her not feeling like herself. Without further treatment, this condition could lead to long-term complications that affect her quality of life.
We know Midnight can’t be here forever — but if eternity were possible, we’d choose it in a heartbeat. For the years she is here, our goal is simple: comfort, dignity, love, and care. She has given unconditional love her entire life, and now we’re doing everything we can to give that back to her.
We’re raising funds to help cover the cost for her surgery and the next steps needed to relieve her pain. Any amount — even one dollar — truly helps. Sharing Midnight’s story helps just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read, for caring, and for helping us give Midnight the comfort she deserves.
