Hi, I’m Trent Brumby, and live at amazing Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Every day I surf and walk these beaches I love, and every day I see more plastic and microplastic waste polluting our oceans, harming marine life, damaging ecosystems, and threatening human health.
We are in the middle of a plastic crisis. Globally, we produce over 414 million tonnes of plastic every year and up to 23 million tonnes of that ends up dumped into oceans, rivers, lakes, and waterways. This is devastating not just for marine creatures, but for us too. Microplastics are now found in our blood, brains, and even unborn babies.
In February 2025, I launched Microplastic Awareness Systems (@microplastic_a.s) a self-funded initiative aimed at raising awareness, educating the community, and taking action to combat this growing threat.
I continue to put in my time, heart, and savings into this cause. I’ve reached out to some local businesses for funding and support but so far with no offers. And I’m not giving up.
I need your help to connect further with our awesome community with my recent creations:
Plastinator: the world’s first animated superhero who fights plastic and microplastic pollution and protects our oceans and beaches (@plastinator_superhero). Through school talks, animated stories, community education Plastinator is inspiring the next generation to take action.
I also launched @high5forthesurf: a simple but effective campaign encouraging surfers and beachgoers to pick up 5 pieces of litter after every surf.
To make these projects grow and reach more people, I need your support. Your donation will help fund:
Educational animation development of Plastinator
Marketing and school/community resources
Purchase further specialist beach clean-up tools, like the locally made "microplastic trommel" I’ve recently invested in.
Expansion of the High 5 For The Surf campaign to engage more coastal communities
I’ve set a goal of $5,000 to help continue this work. Every dollar goes directly into education, volunteering services at community clean-ups, and creating a cleaner, safer, more sustainable future.
If you love the ocean, if you believe in protecting the planet, and if you want to be part of real, local action that inspires global change please consider donating and sharing this campaign.
Let’s end the "Plastic Age" one piece at a time.
With gratitude,
Trent Brumby
