Michelle’s life changed after a skiing accident on February 1, 2025, caused serious damage to the knee, including a ruptured MCL and ACL and a torn meniscus. On February 18, 2025, Michelle underwent surgery to repair all three injuries, but the recovery has been far more difficult than anyone expected. Since then, Michelle has struggled with severe limitations in both bending and straightening the knee. A rare complication called arthrofibrosis developed, something seen in only a small number of patients, and it has made healing incredibly hard. Over the past year, Michelle has been under anesthesia four different times in an effort to regain flexibility and movement.
This injury has affected nearly every part of daily life. Things that once brought joy, like hiking, working out, and staying active, have become painful or impossible. Even everyday movement has been difficult, and the strain of compensating with the other leg has caused ongoing discomfort and pain. After doing extensive research, Michelle found a specialist in Cincinnati, Ohio, who offers a surgery that may finally help.
To move forward with this treatment, Michelle will need to stay in Cincinnati for six weeks after surgery to complete therapy. That means added costs for lodging, a rental car, flights, and other travel expenses, while Michelle’s fiancé and children work to maintain their home and family responsibilities from afar. Even a small donation to help offset these costs will help financially and emotionally during an incredibly stressful time. Thank you for supporting Michelle and giving hope during this long recovery.
