A visit to the doctor for a check-up on my birthday this year led to a stage 3 cancer diagnosis. I've been trying to stay present and grounded, but chemotherapy and radiation were never things I imagined I'd be facing. Lately, the fatigue has been overwhelming, and I've noticed how much harder it is to keep up with my usual routines. In the past, I managed my health with fresh juice and nourishing soups, but this time, the situation is different. My doctors have now advised me to begin traditional treatment, starting next week. At first, I was told that the nausea medications are better these days and that I might be able to keep working. More recently, though, they've recommended I take off work completely and include this in my FMLA paperwork. This has been a difficult adjustment, both emotionally and financially. The funds raised here will help me cover my insurance deductible, additional medical costs, and living expenses while I'm unable to work. I want to be transparent: I don't want money for nothing. My hope is to give back by starting a yoga series for cancer patients and survivors, and to help raise cancer awareness.
