Hi everyone!

My name is Michelle Menchaca, and I am a first-generation college student at California State University, Fresno, currently pursuing a degree in Animal Science with a pre-professional emphasis. Growing up as the first in my family to attend a university, I have worked hard to balance my studies with professional roles at The Bulldog Locker to support my education.

I am thrilled to share that I have the opportunity to be a part of the UC Davis Summer Abroad Program: Wildlife, Conservation & Veterinary Medicine in Thailand! This internship is a pivotal step in my journey toward a career in animal management and welfare.

Why go Global?

This program is an intensive, hands on exploration of animal husbandry in a global context. While in a country, I will be studying:

Animal Science in Practice: Gaining international perspectives on wildlife conservation, zoological management, animal nutrition, animal welfare, and training methods.

Veterinary Medicine: Learning hands on veterinary experience on diagnostic methods, proper handling, and physical examinations at the guidance of an onsite veterinarian.

The Goal:

As a student who has already earned certifications in Broiler Welfare and animal husbandry at Fresno State, I am incredibly eager to learn how these systems operate on an international scale. However, the cost of international airfare, program fees, and living expenses is a significant hurdle.

Being fluent in Spanish and English, I have always valued cross-cultural communication. I am ready to take my organizational skills and initiative across the globe to bring back valuable knowledge to my community in Fresno.
