My name is Breffni and I'm starting this fund to help Michelle Monasky and her daughter. I'm hoping to raise money to help Michelle with some legal costs and ease some of her financial burdens.

Michelle's story is truly appalling and unbelievable.

Michelle met her husband while he was working in the US. When he lost his job, they returned to his native Italy so he could get a job, always with the intention to return to the US.  Michelle became pregnant in Italy and her husband became more controlling and abusive throughout the relationship. She intended to return to the US while she was pregnant but due to complications she could not fly.  By the time her daughter was born the relationship was over. Her abusive husband refused to drive her to the hospital while she was in labor and at one point screamed at his new infant daughter.  Michelle feared for their lives and went to the police and stayed at a shelter with her  baby girl. Her husband relented or so it seemed and signed her daughter's passport so she could go back home to the US. .

Michelle’s husband then accused her of kidnapping the child and filed a petition under the The Hague Convention to have the child returned to Italy.

Michelle was her daughter's primary caregiver and they only lived together in Italy for 8 weeks however under The Hague her daughter was sent back to Italy by the US courts to a known abuser. The US courts ordered her husband to pay $100,000 in damages for the abuse(which he never paid).

While Michelle was in the US, she was stripped of her parental rights by an Italian court. Michelle was never notified of this proceeding.

Four Years later Michelle is in Italy, still fighting to get regular visitation with her daughter.

Her case just went before the US Supreme Court but because of the international custody law their hands were tied and her daughter remains in Italy. Now her husband is trying to get Michelle to cover his legal costs because she lost this last case.

Michelle has nothing left to give and she continues her fight for justice to see her daughter. Her daughter is now 5 years old.  Michelle is in Italy and her visa will soon run out. Anything you give will help Michelle continue to fight for her daughter.

Please help us raise $2,000 . This will not cover a fraction of Michelle legal fees but it will help her continue the fight with day to day financial worries.

Thanks in advance to anyone that donates. Michelle really appreciates any support. If you could please share her story, we can help ensure that this does not continue to happen. People need to know about the Hague Convention before they embark on an overseas adventure. Thanks for taking the time to read.
