-Back in November of 22’ I developed mastitis (an infection on the breast due to a blocked milk duct) during my breastfeeding journey with Lucia my second born. Unfortunately, I had to stop feeding her from that one breast and the other stayed strong for 7 months alone. Well, when I stopped my breastfeeding journey in June of 23’ I noticed I still had a lump on the breast I had the mastitis. I thought it was just a lingering issue from that, I had no pain or discomfort. Fast forward to December I noticed the lump getting bigger, so I made an appointment with my gynecologist. I was sent for a CT scan in January, an MRI on February, and a biopsy in March.
-March 20th I was diagnosed with HER2+ Breast Cancer stage 3. As you can imagine I felt my world collapse. I was so mad at the time I was in denial. How could this happen to me? I’m so young, I have a healthy lifestyle, I exercise, eat a well-balanced diet, like how and why me?!
-It just happens that my body’s breast cells have higher than normal levels of the HER2 protein, which caused them to multiply too quickly and developed into multiple tumors.
-One of the hardest things was not only sharing this with my mom, but sharing it with Luna my oldest daughter. I had to talk to Luna about it and she only had one question, “Is there a cure for it”. Thank god medicine has advanced and there are various options for treatments nowadays.
-The thought of leaving my girls behind on this earth without me this early just doesn’t sit well with me. Therefore, I will fight until there is no more fight in me.
