On January 5, 2026, our family was devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of Douglas Ptak. Doug was only 52 years old and had proudly served for 29 years as a Cook County Sheriff’s Officer. His career was defined by dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to public service.

Doug was the primary breadwinner for his family and a loving, steady presence to his five children. His wife, Michelle, is now facing the unimaginable task of grieving her husband while simultaneously trying to hold their household together.
