Hello, My name is Hope Harris and I am a very long-time friend of Michele Rauxet Nix. In 2018, Michele was diagnosed with a very brutal neurological disease called Charcot Marie Tooth aka CMT. For those that do not know already, CMT is an inheritable peripheral neuropathy that includes many motor and/or sensory neuropathies, axonopathies, myelinopathies, and neuronopathies. Due to the degradation of their nerves, people with CMT suffer lifelong progressive muscle weakness and atrophy of the arms and legs, progressive sensory loss, and CMT can affect other parts of the body. This leads to problems with balance, walking, hand use, and more. There currently is no treatment or cure for this disease. Although Michele has done a great job at not letting this disease define who she is, it has come to a point that she has had to have a partial leg amputation. Unfortunately, this has taken a toll on her finances and her insurance does not completely cover all of the items she will need, plus a ramp to be built at her house and possible some gift cards to help feed her and her son Fred who is home for the summer but working a lot of hours. If you could possibly donate any amount to help her with her needs, we appreciate it and if all you can do is offer prayers, she could those too!
Michele will be in a rehabilitation facility for a few more weeks, and we are hoping to get this moving just as soon as we can. She will be using a wheelchair for a while until she is fit for prosthetics. Contact me if you have any questions at all.
