My name is Michael, and I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d need to ask for help. I’ve always tried to provide for my family and handle challenges on my own, but the past few months have been overwhelming. After undergoing two knee surgeries, I developed blood clots that led to heart failure and pulmonary embolisms. The situation became so severe that doctors had to surgically remove 40 to 50 blood clots from my lungs. Recovery has been slow and difficult, and it’s taken a toll on every part of our lives.

Because of my health, I haven’t been able to work, and my workers comp payments stopped unexpectedly two months ago. My lawyer is doing everything possible to get them reinstated, but in the meantime, we’re struggling to keep up. We’re behind on rent, and there’s no food in the house—I’ve been eating peanut butter and crackers for a week just to get by. I’ve even had to walk to my medical appointments because I can’t afford bus fare. I tried recycling cans and bottles to keep food on the table, but now that I’m on blood thinners, it’s too risky if I get cut.

We are a prideful Christian family, and asking for help is not easy for us. But right now, we are at our wits’ end.
