We found my Mom on her bathroom floor on Monday, 15 SEP 2025. She had fallen the night before. She was rushed via ambulance to Penn Highlands Huntingdon and then life flighted to Hershey Medical Center. She suffered an odontoid fracture in her neck. That is a small bone that connects C1 and C2 in her neck. She also suffered a gash on the top of her head and bruising on her nose. We're not sure exactly how she landed or what she hit.
Luckily, Mom is home however she is in a lot of pain and discomfort and further medical attention has been slow at best. She has to wear a cervical collar for 8 weeks minimum. She'll need follow up appointments in Hershey (which is 105 miles from us) as well as a walker and other medical necessities. We are trying to seek help from the state for in-home care however a lot of it is still falling on Heather and I. What makes this even more difficult is that I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis, I'm partially cripple (3 vertebrate are semi fused limiting my range of motion), and limited on what exactly I can do.
Mom is also suffering from Endometrial Cancer and is scheduled to have surgery though that has been pushed to November 20th at the earliest.
We need help to pay travel expenses, copays, coinsurance, medical necessities not covered, and if possible, time for my lovely and caring wife Heather, whom is also an LPN Nurse, to take off of work to help my Mom. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If any friends/ family want to come out and help too let me know. Thank you kindly, - Michael.
