Michael and I met in 2015, quickly bonding over our shared love of music. Our friendship grew stronger with every passing year, from late-night jam sessions to helping each other through life’s ups and downs. I’ll never forget the night I helped him move into his first home, learning together how to put up blinds and laughing at our mistakes. Michael has always been the kind of friend who shows up—no matter what, no matter when.
When Nashville was just starting to grow into a tourist destination, Michael opened his home to hundreds of guests through Airbnb, personally showing many around and giving rides to the best spots in town. He’s helped countless people find their dream homes, guided others through selling theirs, and mentored many on their career paths. Some of you may have even found the love of your life thanks to a connection Michael made. For so many of us, he’s made life incalculably better with every interaction. That he wore one heart out is almost not surprising—because to Michael, love is a verb.
Several years ago, Michael’s life changed when he developed an infection of the heart. While he fought hard and things seemed to improve for a while, his health has taken a serious turn for the worse in the last couple of weeks. Now, he’s facing the daunting journey of a heart transplant. The road ahead is uncertain and filled with challenges, but Michael’s spirit remains strong. Although he has insurance, it won’t cover everything. The costs of surgery, medications, and ongoing care are overwhelming, and he’ll also need help with essentials like his mortgage, food, and utilities while he recovers and is unable to work.
I know many of you are looking out into a chaotic world and seeking something you can do to make things just a little better—do this. Help our dear friend Michael out when he needs us most. Any donation, share, or kind word will make a world of difference as Michael fights for his health and his future.
