Back in the early '80s, if you attended a show at the Mabuhay or one of the popular clubs such as Night Break, the show was most likely booked by Michael Reid. In later years, Michael and Katheleen formed The Punk Rock Sewing Circle and put on events that involved music, photography, spoken word, the art of fanzines and flyers, and so much more. Many memories were created from these events with dedication and hard work. Well, now they need your help, and we are asking for the community to come together and give what you can because every bit counts in this case.
An abscess originating from untreated dental issues wound up attached to Michael's brain. Initially, ten cc's of pus was drained from the site, but Michael became worse rather than better, and it was determined that his skull needed to be re-opened. That time, thirty cc's of pus was drained from the site, and an appropriate course of antibiotics was initiated.
The infection led to swelling of the brain, which resulted in tissue bruising due to space constraints within the skull. This damage, while hopefully only temporary, has left Michael limited in his ability to communicate or follow advice from his doctors. It is hoped that this is temporary, but it is too early to tell how much impairment Michael will experience in the long run and how long the healing process will take.
Michael and Katheleen are both not in the best of circumstances financially. They are in much need of help to get them through the long process of healing for Michael and the care he will need as a result.
Let's come together and help Michael, who has given so much to bring the best of music and counter-culture to the forefront for the Bay Area and has created so many memories for all of us. A big thank you in advance to everyone who donates.
