My name is Christina Cano, and in September 2024, my big brother Michael Cano was in a serious motorcycle accident that left him convulsing after being ejected from his bike at a dangerous intersection. When he was admitted to the emergency room, they identified a critical head and vertebrae injury, 10 broken ribs, a broken clavicle, a bruised heart, a punctured lung, and a broken sternum. The doctors said it was a miracle he survived.
Michael is the kindest, strongest, hardest working, most talented, and most compassionate person I know. I’ve looked up to him my whole life and am proud to be his little sibling. Everyone who knows him recognizes these qualities about him. We don’t know the extent of his brain or spinal injury yet, but he has a very long journey ahead of him in recovery and rehabilitation.
Since being admitted to the hospital, Michael has had to have a five hour spinal surgery to fuse his two top vertebrae and reattach them to his skull. He was intubated to a ventilator through his mouth for a week, then had a tracheotomy performed to assist his breathing. He also contracted pneumonia and needs to have the liquid in his lungs suctioned out. He is hooked to a feeding tube, unable to move, and reliant on hospital staff for his needs.
Michael lives alone and in a different state from his family. Any support for his medical bills while he can’t work would be appreciated by my family. His friends Justin and Rachel are helping us run this GoFundMe campaign.
Thank you for all your support ❤️
