Support Michael's Fight for a Healthier Future
Donation protected
Hello my name is Kate. I work at Collin’s Aerospace, where I met Bailey Miell, Michael's mom. Michael Miell is a sweet little boy that has a bright future ahead of him. Already, at 6 years old, he has endured several brain surgeries to remove enlarged arachnoid cyst & is scheduled for another. I wanted to start this for her because this little boy deserves a chance at life just like everyone else. He deserves to have his parents with him through this process without the constant pressure thinking about medical bills. Money is the last thing anyone should worry about in a situation like this. Our goal is to raise enough to pay for Michael's upcoming surgery. This would alleviate some of the financial stress off the Miell family and allow them do what is most important in life, be by Michael's side throughout this process. At the moment Bailey works the equivalent of 2 full time jobs & will be for the foreseeable future. Please help the Miell family by donating to this. (If this raises more than the initial goal, we will be helping the Miell family pay for Michael's previous surgeries.) Thank you all for helping!
-$10,000 will go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester to pay for Michael’s next surgery.
-$5,000 will help pay for every day expenses such as gas for the Miell family to drive back & forth from Marion, Iowa to the Mayo Clinic when Michael is getting ready for surgery & recovering. It will also help pay for any meals the family may need & lodging during the first few days of recovery. If we raise enough, the Miell family will be able to stay in Rochester with Michael while he is recovering. This will additionally help offset other living expenses the Miell family pays for, such as one payment towards Michael’s prior medical bills, while allowing them to be away from work for a short time with Michael. He is a brave little boy, but at 6 years old, it would be comforting to him to have his family there while he recovers, even if it’s only for the first few days. Previously, the Miell family would drive from Marion, Iowa to Rochester every day because they could not afford to miss work later that evening.
Here’s a small description, written by Bailey Miell, of what they are facing:
“Michael has 4 enlarged arachnoid cyst that has damaged 90% of hearing on the right side also his eye site has weakened from the pressure it has been putting pressure on nerves and ruining them.. he has now had 4 brain surgeries and will continue to have many to help keep him with us and thriving he just had a recent brain surgery in July 2024 they also said he would not be able to walk/ be in vegetable state and he is a warrior because he has fought through and pushed and pushed and now is not only walking but running too!! But the huge concern is his huge cyst on/near his brain stem and we had a ICP monitor placed and the pressure was so high that it would be very dangerous to go in and operate because it could potentially damage his brain stem which we all know what that leads too and unfortunately we have to live day by day and just take in each day as a blessing because we never know what is going to happen… but our medical bills just keep piling up, because one, we don’t qualify for any state assistance, etc. and his surgeon doesn’t accept Medicaid. Even if we did, he goes to Mayo Clinic and the specialist choose what they accept, etc. and because nothing has been diagnosed cancerous. As of right now he does not qualify for Medicaid due to my husband occupation and my own. Also our insurance through work, the out of state coverage, is limited so we are paying on $475,886.33 ($1902 a month) and this is not even for traveling back-and-forth to mayo constantly. This is not even including the appointments that we have to pay for that range from $350-$1200 after insurance covers their part and even while he was in a medical induced coma due to continuous seizures etc I still traveled back and fourth to mayo and to work everyday for a month 4 hours each way and this was the whole August of this year (last month) he is projected to have a 5th surgery in beginning of next year and so we know we will have a hefty deposit for that as well, I just want him to be okay and make it to 100% because he is an AMAZING boy and has such a huge heart!!”
