Hello, I’m Tonya Scarbrough and I’m doing this GoFundMe for my son Michael, who has just been diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Back in March of this year, he was hurting in his chest and went to a local urgent care where they did a chest X-ray and found a hilar mass. From there, we have been on a journey of many months of searching for answers through tests, PET scans, and biopsies. We had many trips to Vanderbilt, and at the end of September, we finally got a diagnosis so we can begin treatment.

Well, at the end of September, my son turned 26 years old, so he lost my insurance coverage. So, we went from having insurance that was paying for everything to having no insurance and battling his workplace insurance trying to get coverage. We are facing $240,000 for chemo out of pocket alone. We were told yesterday that he will also require radiation treatment when chemo is complete. We sat in the doctor’s office yesterday with the cancer doctor who said, “I don’t want to put you in financial ruin, but the lymph nodes are so large that they are compressing on the main pulmonary artery, so we are not going to be able to wait much longer,” so we are choosing to move forward with treatment.

I ask that if you can give $1, it will help. My son is currently still working. We don’t know if he will be able to during the 4-6 month chemo treatment and then radiation therapy after that. In addition, he and his fiancée Maddie chose to go ahead and have a child while he could (chemo makes you sterile), so she is expecting their one and only baby due in December. She is currently working but will be out on maternity leave soon. They need financial help and support throughout this journey, but most of all, please pray for them and his healing.
