Michaela Coolbaugh is my 28-year-old sister and has been very recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Acute promyelocytic leukemia is a rare and fast-developing blood cancer that affects immature white blood cells called promyelocytes.
This cancer causes severe changes in blood counts, leading to a high risk of hemorrhaging or uncontrollable bleeding.
Michaela is currently inpatient at LVHN Cedar Crest, receiving daily chemotherapy and blood transfusions. She has had some really difficult setbacks as well, with sepsis (a severe systemic infection) and an abscess in her arm.
The prognosis with treatment is actually really good with this type of cancer, but the treatment is aggressive, difficult, and causes a lot of side effects that make working impossible at the moment.
Michaela cannot work due to the severity of her cancer and complications. Bills continue even when someone is sick. She also helps her elderly parents quite a bit financially, so the loss of income is extra hard.
I realize things are hard economically for everyone, and the sacrifice of a donation is not lost on us.
If you can’t give, can I ask that you please share this and offer a prayer for her treatment to work?
Thank you all so much for your love and support!
