Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. It affects as many as 30,000 in the United States, with 5,000 new cases diagnosed each year. One may be most familiar with this disease knowing of Dr. Steven Hawking, a theoretical physicist who passed in 2018.
A member of our work family, Michael Spears, had been diagnosed with this debilitating disease. Michael’s case has been swift, and he is no longer able to walk, and is losing the use of his arms.
Michael has been an invaluable asset to our team and strong leader with managing two service teams. Michael is a testament to perseverance and as difficult it has been for him, his wife Tina, and the help of his peers, he shows up for work every day. His positive outlook is unsurpassed and a testament to the work ethic desire to serve our customers.
Michael is at a point where he is no longer able to perform his duties and is beginning long term disability. The struggles he and his family will face are unimaginable. Under no obligation and a showing of empathy for our co-worker and friend, this page is being created.
